Welcome to Penzance Veterinary Clinic

WHO WE ARE

Penzance Veterinary Clinic is a Small Animal veterinary clinic, providing veterinary services across Hout Bay, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Constantia and Noordhoek areas.

Our focus is mainly with dogs and cats, but also welcome clients with “small furry” pets.
We offer a range of clinical services, consultations and surgeries and sell a wide selection of scientifically balanced pet foods.
We strive to uphold the very best in patient care and clinical excellence for our patients.

The clinic was established by Dr Bruce Stevens in 1996 and has grown in size and client base over the years.
In October 2013 the clinic was purchased by Dr’s Stephan Mauch and Brendan Brady, with the aim of continuing the excellent service that our clients have come to expect, building on those relationships, and to provide more convenient solutions for our clients.

Our facilities are South African Veterinary Council approved and strict daily hygiene measures are in place to ensure safety standards are maintained.

Tender care at Penzance Veterinary Clinic

We have ample off street parking available and a spacious client-patient waiting area.

Our on site Veterinary retail outlet stocks a wide range of scientific veterinary diets for cats and dogs of all life stages. We also stock a wide selection of toys, leads and collars. Our staff are well trained to provide you with information on our extensive range of pet dewormers and tick and flea products.
The clinic is equipped with two consultation rooms, a theatre preparation room which can also be used for dental procedures and a surgical suite. This suite consists of a custom made veterinary theatre table, theatre lighting, a centralised oxygen system for our anaesthetic machines, patient monitoring facilities while under anaesthesia, as well as a medical suction unit.
Xrays are performed in our xray room and boasts a state of the art digital xray processing facility. Ultrasound examinations can also be performed in this room.
Our patients are provided with comfortable cages and an outside run area for larger dogs.

We also have a separate cat ward to ensure our feline patients are kept in a stress free environment as possible.

Our Team

Dedicated to your pet and you

Our veterinary clinic has four full time veterinarians throughout the week, as well as a veterinary nursing assistant.,br/> On weekends we have assistance from a locum veterinary nurse.

Our Veterinarians

Dr's Stephan Mauch and Brendan Brady are the practice principles and bought the clinic from Dr Bruce Stevens in October 2013.
Over time, the practice has steadily grown and the current veterinary team consists of four full time veterinarians.
Dr Sophia Moosa qualified from Bristol University (UK), and joined our team in early 2018.
Dr Nicola Nieuwenhuis most recently joined our team in January 2022.

Practice Manager and Reception

Our practice manager, Carmen Muller has been at the practice for over 8 years, and brings a wealth of knowledge in practice management and ensures smooth running of day to day veterinary clinic tasks.
Our full time receptionists, Jasmine Claase and Tracy Knox ensure clients and pets receive a warm welcome, and are assisted by a team of part time receptionists and assistants.

Animal Handlers

Our veterinary animal assistants, Percy, Wele and Luthando are welcome familiar faces to most of our clients, assisting with clinic and hospital duties and assisting clients with their pets.

International Interns

We regularly host international student interns who seek to gain valuable clinic and surgical experience whilst being able to explore Cape Town as a travel destination.e one hand and go out for travelling on the other in the most beautiful country I´ve seen so far.

The warmest 'Thank you' to the whole Penzance Vet team, which made one of my biggest experience come true. I spent my obligatory internship as part of my studies for 4 month in Hout Bay, South Africa and it was such a great time to put theory into practice, to improve my subject-specific knowledge as well as to learn for life :)
All of them are so open-minded and kind. It didn´t take a long time to feel myself as part of the team. It´s phenomenal how enthusiastic the vets are. They love their job and are dead keen to teach you something. At the same time they are pretty patient and never forget fun at work. They gave me so much trust regarding to work with the animals.
I absolutely recommend the Penzance Vet Clinic to everyone who wants to combine learning a lot on the one hand and go out for travelling on the other in the most beautiful country I´ve seen so far.

General Consultations

Our two consultation rooms are spacious and equiped to deal with general consultations. Both are air-conditioned for out patient's and clients comfort. General consultations and vaccinations are done in these rooms

Dental

Periodontal disease and dental problems are commonplace in our patients. Dental healthcare is extremely important for overall health. We have a well equipped dental area to address your pet's dental problems.

Surgical Services

Our spacious dedicated theatre is where our sterile procedures are performed. These range from routine spay and neuter operations, to intricate soft tissue as well as more advanced orthopaedic operations.

Radiology and Ultrasound

Our clinic boasts a digital radiography unit, which enables us to get higher quality images in a quicker time than ever before. We also have a high resolution veterinary specific digital ultrasound unit to assist with diagnoses in ill pets, as well as pregnancy diagnosis and check ups.

Microchipping

Microchipping is a procedure that we highly recommend to all our clients. This procedure has proven its value repeatedly in assisting to reunite lost pets with their owners.

OUR RETAIL OUTLET

We offer a comprehensive supply of excellent, scientifically formulated diets for dogs and cats to cater for all life stages – from puppy or kitten to senior years, ensuring optimal nutrition no matter the age of your pet.
In addition to the scientific diets, we also stock many Veterinary Prescription diets used for the treatment and management of specific conditions diagnosed in our patients.

We also stock a wide selection of toys, leads and collars. Our staff are well trained to provide you with information on our extensive range of pet dewormers and tick and flea products.

TICK AND FLEA TREATMENT

We stock a wide range of products available for deworming and against ticks and fleas.

There are many newer products on the market that are able to treat against multiple parasites (e.g. Revolution, Advocate).
These treatments are based on a patient’s weight and are adjusted accordingly.
Certain products are cat or dog specific and should only be used for the intended species to prevent toxicities. Contact us for more advice.
